5  – Live Improv Comedy  with The Bit Players

3 – Sky Dance at Norman Bird Sanctuary

Friday from 7pm to 10pm

Enjoy an evening by the fire, listening to the prose of some of the great nature writers melded with fiddle and classical music. Fiddlers EmmaLee Holmes-Hicks and Rachel Panitch, along with guitarist Mike Sokolovsky deliver a toe-tapping performance sprinkled with all the surprise and intrigue of improvisational music!

4 – MEC Stand-Up for Education Comedy Night

An evening of comedy to benefit Middletown public education. Comedy Show and Live & Silent Auction.

5 – Friday Movie Night – A Classic Irish Evening

Join us for dinner at One Bellevue or enjoy a Guinness in our Lounge before the show. In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, One Bellevue will be offering a traditional Corned Beef & Cabbage Dinner, available from 5-7pm, followed by a free showing of the Oscar winning classic, “The Quiet Man” with John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara. 6 – The Well

Evangelical Friends Church Newport (EFC Newport) will host “The Well”, a monthly coffeehouse featuring Christian music and written work performed by area musicians and artists, at The Annex in Newport on Friday, March 18th from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. More Info

7 – Hotel Viking Wine Dinner – Frog’s Leap Winery

Friday at 7pm

Featured winemakers will pair their wines with a four-course prix-fixe menu designed by Chef Barry Correia of One Bellevue. Keeping true to the Festival’s long-time approach of tasting the wines first, then developing the menu based on the flavor profiles, Chef Correia will work with each winemaker to craft a menu that showcases Rhode Island’s harvests and flavors. Each menu will present pairings that best enhance the flavors of both the featured wine and food.

The 2016 Viking Wine Festival includes award-winning wineries and celebrated personalities from the wine world. All dinners start at 7pm. The Opus One Winery dinner is $175 per person. 8 – Mary Poppins! 

Friday & Saturday at Fenner Hall

Newport’s SWANHURST CHORUS THEATER announces its 22nd Annual Tribute to Broadway with Disney & Cameron Mackintosh’s beloved adaptation of P.L. Travers “Mary Poppins.” Join Mary & Bert for this fabulous, magical, and whimsical jaunt. Held at Fenner Hall, 15 Fenner Avenue, Newport, the dinner theater-style shows features intimate staging that places the audience on Cherry Tree Lane.

Dates are March 5, 6, 12, 13, 18 & 19 with matinees on Sunday, March 6th and 13th, and Saturday, March 12th. NOTE: Opening night, Saturday, March 12th evening, Sunday, March 13th, and Saturday, March 19th are SOLD OUT.

Tickets are $35 and include full dinner & dessert buffet. Matinees are $30. Children 12 & under receive a $5 discount for Friday shows as well as Matinees. (Children price not offered for Saturday evenings.) Full tables of 8 are $270 (evening shows only). Reservations are strongly advised as performances do sell out! 9 – Spring Equinox Hike

Saturday from 2pm to 3pm at Ballard Park

Celebrate the first day of spring with a hike at Ballard Park! Learn about the thirteen acre site’s history while exploring the mile+ of trails. FBP staff will share information about the way Ballard Park’s plants and animals respond to the longer days. MORE INFO

Salve Regina University Seahawks skate for Mental Health Awareness

The third annual Mental Health Awareness Night organized by the Salve Regina University’s Men’s Ice Hockey Team raised more than $4,000 in support of Newport  Mental Health’s mission to destigmatize the conversation around mental health and provide mental health and substance use treatment to those who live, work, and study in Newport County.
