I am proud to offer my endorsement of Nicole Shevory for the Newport School Committee.
I have had the pleasure of knowing Nicole for the past three years, and oddly enough, our paths first crossed through school functions. As a parent, Nicole has consistently demonstrated her commitment to our schools, not only through her involvement in her own children’s education but also through her willingness to support the greater school community.
Nicole has been an active member of the Parent Teacher Organization at Pell Elementary School, always willing to lend a hand wherever needed. As someone who is deeply involved in our schools, I appreciate candidates who show up, participate and contribute beyond the needs of their own children. Nicole has done just that.
Beyond her involvement as a parent, Nicole brings valuable professional experience. As a former senior leader in Veterans Affairs, she has experience developing policy, managing budgets and collaborating with unions. These are three critical responsibilities that should be high priorities for anyone serving on our School Committee.
Nicole has also served on Newport boards, giving her familiarity with public meetings, community discussions, and the responsibilities that come with making decisions on behalf of others.
Perhaps what I appreciate most about Nicole is her ability to listen. She understands the importance of hearing both sides of an issue before forming an opinion or making a decision. That is a quality I believe our School Committee needs.
For these reasons, I wholeheartedly endorse Nicole Shevory for the Newport School Committee. I believe she will bring experience, thoughtfulness and a genuine commitment to all of Newport’s students and families.
