The Newport Gulls will hold their youth winter baseball clinics on Aquidneck Island this year, moving the six-year-old program to the new Aquidneck Island Sports indoor facility in Portsmouth and adding a fourth session.
Registration opened Wednesday.
Among the coaches is John Mass, a Portsmouth native and right-handed pitcher at Florida Atlantic University who played for the Gulls this past summer and is returning to the team in 2027. Mass will be coaching in his hometown in his second year with the clinics.
He is joined by Ben Brutti, a right-handed pitcher from South Kingstown now in the Cincinnati Reds organization, also returning for a second year. The Gulls said more coaches will be announced.
The clinics are open to boys and girls ages 8 to 12 of all skill levels and cover pitching, hitting and fielding. All four sessions run from 9 a.m. to noon on Sundays: Dec. 6, Dec. 13, Dec. 20 and Jan. 3.
The cost is $450 for all four sessions or $125 for a single session. Participants receive a Newport Gulls T-shirt and a personal player evaluation from the coaching staff, according to the team.
All sessions are at Aquidneck Island Sports, 1055 East Main Road, Portsmouth, a new indoor baseball and softball facility. Registration is available through the Gulls’ website, newportgulls.com.
