Sunday, Oct. 4, is the final day to register to vote or update your registration for the Nov. 3 general election.

Completed registration forms can be dropped in the municipal drop box on Bull Street by 4 p.m. Sunday, or voters can register and update their information online at vote.sos.ri.gov with a Rhode Island driver’s license or state ID.

The rest of the calendar, according to the city’s Canvassing Office:

  • Tuesday, Oct. 13, 4 p.m. — Deadline to apply for a mail ballot. Applications must be received by then, though late ones are accepted if postmarked by the deadline and received within three days.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 14 — Early voting begins in the second-floor conference room at City Hall, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on regular business days. Emergency ballots are available in the Canvassing Office.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 28 — Extended early voting hours until the 6:30 p.m. City Council meeting.
  • Monday, Nov. 2, 4 p.m. — Early voting and emergency ballots end.
  • Tuesday, Nov. 3 — Polls open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mail ballots must reach the Canvassing Office or a drop box by 8 p.m.

The Newport Canvassing Office is on the first floor of City Hall, 43 Broadway, open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays. Questions can go to 401-845-5384 or 401-845-5386.
