RKO Army, the Rocky Horror Picture Show shadow cast that played its first show as an established troupe at the Jane Pickens Theater on Halloween night in 1981, returns to that stage Friday, Sept. 25, ahead of a newportFILM screening of “Time Warp.”
Doors open at 6 p.m. and the performance and film begin at 7. Tickets are $20.
Directed by Allison Sloan Berg, “Time Warp” follows Kenny Starling and the Starling Company in Rock Springs, Wyoming, as they prepare to stage their own shadow cast production of the 1975 cult film, with performers acting it out live in front of the screen. Starling founded the company in 2022 as the first drag and queer theatrical troupe in Wyoming, and the documentary follows its cast through rehearsals and their own stories of community and belonging. It received a Special Jury Mention for best documentary feature at this year’s Tribeca Festival.
RKO Army has performed across Rhode Island, Massachusetts and eastern Connecticut since its Jane Pickens debut. Friday’s short set brings the tradition the film documents onto the same stage where the group began.
NewportOUT and Newport Pride are community partners for the screening and will be on site.
Tickets are at newportfilm.com/films/time-warp.
