Newport Classical will present Ensemble Mélange in two free concerts on Sunday, Oct. 18, at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. at the Newport Classical Recital Hall, 42 Dearborn St.
The concerts hand the programming over to the audience. The ensemble arrives with a menu of more than 30 selections spanning classical, jazz, Latin and Broadway, and audience members are chosen at random to pick what gets played next — meaning no two performances are alike.
The group’s members are soprano Ariadne Greif, violinist Grace Park, cellist Sofia Nowik, clarinetist Moran Katz and oboist Stuart Breczinski, with a pianist to be announced. The New York Times has described the ensemble as a group that relishes the bond with a living, choosing audience.
The performances are part of Newport Classical’s Community Concerts Series, presented by BankNewport with support from the Newport County Fund at the Rhode Island Foundation. Advance registration is requested but not required.
Newport Classical’s Chamber Series opens Sept. 18 with the quartet Invoke, followed by Trio Azura on Oct. 9, the Rasa String Quartet on Oct. 23, pianist Michael Leonardo Davidman on Nov. 6, and guitarist Raphaël Feuillâtre on Nov. 20.
Registration and the full calendar are at newportclassical.org.
