Theatre By The Sea is marking 93 years with a summer Children’s Festival lineup that includes interactive sing-alongs, a Chinese folklore puppet show, a student-performed SpongeBob musical, and a bubble art spectacular.
Performances run on select Fridays in July and August at the theatre, located at 364 Cards Pond Road. Tickets are $15, with group discounts available for parties of 20 or more.
The festival opens Friday, July 10, with Dreamers on Adventures: Sing-a-Long, presented by Simply Enchanted, featuring characters including the Little Mermaid, Rapunzel, and Flynn. The 45-minute interactive show includes post-show photo opportunities; costumes are encouraged. Shows are at 10 a.m. and noon.
On July 17, Tanglewood Marionettes brings The Dragon King, an underwater fantasy rooted in Chinese folklore about a grandmother who journeys to the sea to find out why the Dragon King has withheld the rains. Shows are at 10 a.m., noon, and 2 p.m.
July 31 features the students of Camp Theatre By The Sea performing Nickelodeon The SpongeBob Musical: Youth Edition, the one-hour stage production in which SpongeBob and all of Bikini Bottom face an existential threat. Shows at 10 a.m. and noon.
Simply Enchanted returns August 7 with If You Can Dream: Princess Sing-a-Long, inviting audiences to sing and dance alongside Princesses Aurora, Belle, and Jasmine. Shows at 10 a.m. and noon; costumes welcome.
The festival closes August 14 with Casey Carle’s Bubblemania, a high-energy show combining visual comedy, big band swing music, and bubble artistry — including trapping audience members inside bubbles. Shows at 10 a.m. and noon.
Families can purchase cold drinks and light bites at the gazebo before or after shows. Tickets are available at the box office Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m., online at theatrebythesea.com, or by phone at (401) 782-TKTS (8587).
