401Gives is in its home stretch, and Rhode Islanders still have time to make their donations count.
As of 11 a.m. Wednesday, the statewide day of giving had surpassed $3.5 million raised — more than $3.521 million from 22,431 gifts by more than 14,500 individual donors — pushing toward its $5 million goal with seven hours remaining. A record 675 nonprofits have received support, with 84 organizations surpassing the $10,000 mark.
Two matching gift opportunities remain for donors looking to maximize their impact. At noon, Eastern Bank will offer a $10,000 match, adding $10 to every donation of at least $5. At 4:01 p.m., the Rhode Island Foundation will offer the day’s largest match — $30,000 — adding $25 to every donation of at least $5.
“What we’ve seen since 6 a.m. yesterday morning has been nothing short of incredible, thousands upon thousands of Rhode Islanders stepping up to support the nonprofit organizations that are the anchors of our community,” said Cortney Nicolato, United Way of Rhode Island’s president and CEO. “The energy and the generosity have been tremendous, and we’re hoping for more of that over these final few hours.”
Giving continues through 6 p.m. Wednesday. Donors can contribute to any of more than 700 Rhode Island-based nonprofits at 401Gives.org by searching by cause, community or location.
