The Middletown Police Department has received its third reaccreditation from the Rhode Island Police Accreditation Commission, the department announced Thursday.
The reaccreditation follows a comprehensive review of the department’s policies, procedures, training and operations, measured against 230 standards established by RIPAC. Those standards cover administration, personnel, operations, prisoner services and technical support functions.
Officer Jean Young, who serves as the department’s accreditation manager, played a central role in coordinating the effort to meet and maintain compliance with the commission’s requirements.
The Rhode Island Law Enforcement Accreditation Program is a voluntary system designed to ensure agencies follow industry-recognized best practices. Of the 46 agencies participating statewide, 35 have achieved accredited status. Rhode Island is the only state in the country with 99% participation among eligible law enforcement agencies.
“Accreditation serves as a proven framework for continuous improvement, reinforcing transparency, accountability, and public trust,” the department said in a statement.
