The Newport office brings the same level of trusted care South County Health is known for statewide—covering everything from routine gynecological exams and screenings to prenatal and postpartum care, wellness visits, and preventive services. The expansion reflects South County Health’s commitment to providing comprehensive support for women, whether they are managing a chronic condition, preparing for pregnancy, or simply maintaining their long-term health.

“Our goal is to make high-quality, personalized care accessible to more people,” says Martha Moe, MD, Director of the Center for Women’s Health. “We want women to have a trusted partner for their health, no matter their age or stage of life.”

A Focus on Gynecological Care

While South County Health has long been recognized for its excellence in obstetrics, its Newport location also emphasizes care for non-pregnant patients, ensuring that patients have easy access to preventive screenings, annual wellness visits, contraception counseling, and management of conditions like fibroids, endometriosis, or menopause-related concerns.

Supporting the Whole Family

In addition to clinical care, South County Health offers education and support for patients and families. Expectant and new parents can take advantage of free childbirth classes and New Baby Support groups, taught by experienced Labor & Delivery nurses and Certified Lactation Consultants, including Desiree DesVergnes, RN, IBCLC; Victoria Gatling, BSN, RN, IBCLC; and Amanda Phillips, RN, BSN. These programs provide practical guidance, peer connection, and reassurance that the challenges of early parenthood are shared and manageable.

“A lot of new parents second-guess themselves,” says Briana, a participant in the New Baby Support group held at the Neighborhood Guild in South Kingstown. “Here, I realized, ‘Oh, everything I’m going through is normal.’ That’s a big relief.”

Preparing for Birth and Breastfeeding Success classes are offered at South County Hospital in Wakefield and at Newport County YMCA in Middletown. Upcoming classes on Aquidneck Island are scheduled for December 20, January 17, March 14, and April 11.  These classes are free and open to all expecting parents, not just South County Health patients.
