Bank Rhode Island has launched its 28th annual Holiday Giving Tree program, inviting the community to provide gifts for underprivileged children across Rhode Island.
The program, which runs through mid-December, partners with 16 nonprofit organizations to distribute presents to children in need. Last year, the Holiday Giving Tree delivered 6,944 gifts.
“As the holidays approach, we know many Rhode Island families continue to feel the strain of the rising cost of everyday essentials,” said Will Tsonos, regional president. “Every child deserves to experience the joy of this season, no matter their family’s circumstances. By coming together as a community, we can help make this special time of year brighter for local kids.”
Each BankRI branch features a Holiday Giving Tree in its lobby decorated with ornaments listing a child’s name, age and holiday wish. Community members can select an ornament, purchase a gift and return the unwrapped present to the branch with the ornament attached.
Newport County nonprofit partners and their corresponding branches include:
Boys & Girls Clubs of Newport County at the Newport branch, and Lucy’s Hearth at the Middletown branch.
Other participating organizations statewide include Adoption Rhode Island, AIDS Care Ocean State, Big Brothers Big Sisters of RI, Comprehensive Community Action Program, Connecting for Children & Families, Domestic Violence Program of Crossroads RI, East Bay Community Action Program, Jonnycake Center for Hope, Kingstown Crossings, Operation Stand Down Rhode Island, SSTARbirth, Town of Lincoln Holiday Basket Program and Tri-County Community Action Agency.
