Newport Cannabis Co. will celebrate the Grand Opening of its new Portsmouth dispensary this Friday with food trucks, music and the launch of Rhode Island's first, statewide, same-day delivery service.

Newport Cannabis Co. will celebrate the grand opening of its new Portsmouth dispensary Friday with a daylong party featuring food trucks, music and the launch of what the company calls Rhode Island’s first statewide same-day cannabis delivery service.

The new retailer is the brainchild of Hangar 420, which has been Rhode Island’s largest cannabis cultivator since 2019 and its top-selling cannabis brand since adult-use marijuana was legalized in 2022.

The celebration runs from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at 1637 W. Main Road in Portsmouth, with promotions and special deals continuing throughout Labor Day weekend.

Octavius Prince, CEO and owner of Newport Cannabis Co. and founder of Hangar 420, will be available during Friday’s event to discuss the company’s mission and the state of Rhode Island’s cannabis industry.

As part of the grand opening, 10% of sales from all in-house brands will be donated to the Potter League for Animals, a nonprofit dedicated to advancing the well-being of Rhode Island’s companion animals.

The new dispensary represents an expansion into retail for the team behind Hangar 420. According to the company, Newport Cannabis Co. offers “the widest variety of products at reasonable prices” and emphasizes education, compliance and community service alongside its retail operations.

The Portsmouth location will operate daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and offers online ordering for customers who prefer the company’s delivery service.

Newport Cannabis Co. promotes itself as Rhode Island’s leading cannabis retailer, though the state’s adult-use market is still relatively new, having launched in December 2022.
