Freedom Express Shuttle Service (contributed photo)

Newport is welcoming a new eco-friendly transportation option to its streets.

Freedom Express, an on-demand electric shuttle service, has just launched with a fleet of low-speed electric vehicles dubbed “Coastal Cruisers.” These shuttles are now zipping around downtown Newport, the harbor area, and popular tourist spots.

The service operates on a simple wave-and-ride system. Passengers can either flag down a passing vehicle or check Instagram to find the nearest cruiser. It’s a flexible solution for getting around the city quickly and easily.

“Newport needed a flexible, greener transportation solution — and we’re excited to fill that gap,” said Rebecca Campbell, Owner of Freedom Express. “Whether you’re heading to the beach, grabbing dinner, or shopping downtown, our vehicles are here to move you around quickly and enjoyably.”

During its opening weekend this weekend (June 20 – 22), Freedom Express is offering rides starting at $5 per person. The service runs daily during peak summer hours (5:30 pm to 12 am), making it a convenient option for both locals and tourists.

The Coastal Cruisers are fully electric, providing an open-air experience while being completely emissions-free. It’s a 100% green transportation option that aligns with growing environmental concerns.

Beyond individual rides, Freedom Express also caters to special events, offers hourly bookings, and partners with local hotels. They’re positioning themselves as a versatile transportation solution for various needs in Newport.

To mark their official launch, Freedom Express is hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4 pm on Friday, June 20, at Newport Craft Brewing & Distilling Co. It’s an opportunity for the community to learn more about this new service and perhaps take a ride in one of the Coastal Cruisers.
