Anthony M. Waite, 40, of Newport, Rhode Island, died on February 28, 2025 after many years of battling illness. He was the loving husband of Marlena (Fraticelli) Waite, and devoted father of Anthony Jr. and Jayvon Waite.
Born in Providence, RI on April 7, 1984, he was the son of Antoine Johnson and Elaine “Penny” Waite. Anthony learned about culinary arts as a young man through a Job Corps training opportunity, and soon began his young career as a chef. He started at Applebees, and then grew into opportunities at the Barking Crab, Blue Plate Diner, and the Hotel Viking. Outside of work, he was a loving and dedicated father and husband. As a big LA Lakers fan, he taught his boys about the legend of Kobe, and they enjoyed watching games together.
Anthony is survived by his wife Marlena, his two sons Anthony Jr. and Jayvon of Newport, his mother Elaine “Penny” Waite of Providence, his father Antoine Johnson of Woonsocket, Marlena’s parents, Carlos and Beverly Fraticelli of Newport, his grandmother Elaine Waite of Lawrenceville, GA, his uncle William Waite of Providence, and sisters by marriage Theresa Hull, Michelle Layfield, Melissa Fraticelli, and Maria Lopez, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather William Franklin Waite formerly of Cranston, RI.
A Celebration of Life will be held in April at the United Congregational Church, Valley Road, Middletown. The date and time to be announced.
