The Portsmouth Police Department is on the lookout for new officers, offering great pay and a variety of specialized roles.
New officers start at $64,358 in their first year, with salaries jumping to $78,802 in year two and $88,756 for those with three or more years under their belt.
There’s more money on the table too. Officers can snag a $5,000 accreditation bonus and education stipends ranging from $1,500 for an associate’s degree to $5,000 for a master’s in criminal justice.
“We’re hiring! Excellent salary & benefits!” the department recently posted on Facebook.
But it’s not just about the paycheck. Portsmouth PD offers a range of specialized units and opportunities. Officers can work in the detective division, as school resource officers, or join the special response team.
For those looking for something different, there are spots in harbor patrols, the motorcycle unit, and even a new drone team. The department also has its own fitness center and outdoor shooting range.
Community involvement is big here. Officers can get involved in community policing and even work with the department’s comfort dog program.
