Rhode Islanders can cut energy costs and prepare their homes for winter. Rhode Island Energy (RIE) is offering free home energy assessments to help residents save energy and money. The assessments, conducted by energy specialists, will provide homeowners with personalized recommendations on how to make their homes more energy-efficient.

During the assessments, specialists will evaluate a home’s current energy use, suggest ways to conserve energy, and create a customized energy efficiency plan. They will also provide information on rebates and incentives available from Rhode Island Energy that can help homeowners cover the costs of energy-saving upgrades.

“We find that Rhode Islanders who take advantage of a home energy assessment benefit greatly from the experience,” said Kate Felder, a consumer advocate at Rhode Island Energy. “It can be an eye-opening experience; one that helps customers make quick and easy adjustments to improve their day-to-day energy usage habits during the winter and provide ideas for other projects in the future.”

As part of the program, residents will receive free energy-efficient products, such as advanced power strips, low-flow showerheads, faucet aerators, and programmable thermostats. The assessments may also lead to recommendations for more extensive energy-saving measures, such as upgrades to heating and cooling systems, insulation, and appliances. Renters can also participate in the program with landlord approval.

Rhode Island Energy provides electricity and natural gas to over 770,000 Rhode Island customers.

Rhode Island residents can schedule an appointment for a free home energy assessment online by visiting the Rhode Island Energy website or calling 1-888-633-7947.
