I am writing today to recognize the hard work and commitment of the Newport Canvass Authority, the Newport Canvass Authority staff, and the poll workers and volunteers that made Primary Day 2024 in Newport such as success. Thank you for all your hard work.

It is so unfortunate that the confidence in our electoral systems has deteriorated over recent years, while so many dedicated people commit to making our elections work.  The long hours they worked on Primary Day 2024 should not go unnoticed. These dedicated Newporters have been trained to execute and staff elections that are transparent, open and abide by Rhode Island laws. Please do not take their commitment for granted.

I want to thank Empire Coffee for their generous donation of coffee and snacks for the poll workers.  Their contribution to making poll workers comfortable did not go unnoticed.

And so now it’s on to November 6; another long day for these dedicated poll workers.  Please remember that and thank them for their enormous contribution to democracy in our city and country.

Sincerely,

Representative Lauren Carson
