A new collaboration of eight animal welfare organizations will increase access to essential veterinary services for pets in Rhode Island.
“The health of pets is a top priority, and the coalition has come together to help serve as a one-stop shop for pet owners in need to understand and identify the programs and services available to them,” said RIVACC leader M. Christie Smith, CAWA. “Pets are important, bonded members of our families and every Rhode Islander deserves access to veterinary care, regardless of their financial situation.”
The Rhode Island Veterinary Access to Care Coalition (RIVACC) was formed due to the lack of access to veterinary care and the concern it poses to both pets and their owners. The coalition is made up of Friends of Animals in Need, Potter League for Animals, Providence Animal Control, Providence Animal Rescue League, Rhode Island Society for The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RISPCA), RI Veterinary Medical Association, RIVMA Companion Animal Foundation (CAF), and Volunteer Services for Animals.

RIVACC’s website, ripetcare.org, provides detailed information on resources and assistance available to Rhode Island pet owners, including financial assistance. The organizations work together to identify and promote resources that are available to those who may be struggling to afford veterinary care.
The coalition is also working to increase communication and collaboration between pet owners, veterinarians, and other animal welfare organizations. This is aimed at making sure that all pet owners have access to the information they need to make informed decisions about the care of their pets.
