Musician Alisa Amador made her Newport Folk Festival debut on Friday, July 26, expressing amazement at the sound quality and experience.
It’s not Amador’s first time to Newport, she has performed multiple shows as part of the Newport Live series.
“I was amazed by the quality of the sound. You know, outdoors with several stages, you never know what it’s gonna be,” Amador said. “It’s, you know, quite something to walk into a festival with this history”.
The singer-songwriter recently released her debut full-length album, “Multitudes,” which she describes as a blend of Latin pop, jazz, and folk. The record features both English and Spanish lyrics.
“It was half recorded in LA in a nice studio with incredible LA musicians and half recorded in Boston in a basement home studio with my friends,” Amador explained. “And I feel like that duality and that something at the intersection of, like, the fancy and the childlike … made the record just exactly what it is. It’s me.”
Following her Newport performance, Amador plans to embark on a U.S. tour with her band from Oct. 1 to Dec. 15, covering the West Coast, Northeast, and Midwest.
“In my mailing list, I give book recommendations and I make my own little book reviews, and I talk about things going on in Boston, things going on in Massachusetts, you know, incredible art that amazes me,” Amador said.
Her latest book recommendation is “Moonbound” by Robin Sloan, which she describes as an “incredible adventure from beginning to end.”
