The Newport City Council will meet in executive session on May 8, 2024, to discuss various issues.

The City Council will first meet in an open session and then vote to convene the meeting in a closed session at 5 p.m. The meeting will be held in the second-floor conference room at Newport City Hall, 43 Broadway.

According to a notice from the City of Newport, the executive session will include a discussion of issues relating to the lease, acquisition, or disposition of publicly held property, including the Coggeshall School property.

The Council will also discuss issues related to the Barbera et al v. City of Newport litigation and the collective bargaining agreements with Local 1080, International Association of Fire Fighters, AFL-CIO and Lodge No. 8, Fraternal Order of Police.

And the residents of Newport can be thankful for the degree of transparency in city government that is a result of these notices in your online paper.
