The Newport Police Department is preparing for the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade this Saturday, March 16, 2024. The department is planning parking, traffic, and other safety tips for the event.
The parade is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. on Broadway, starting at Newport City Hall. The parade will proceed south onto Thames Street and then onto America’s Cup Avenue, returning back onto Thames Street and ending on Carroll Avenue at St. Augustin’s Church.
Starting at 5 a.m., parking will be prohibited on Broadway from Cranston Avenue to Washington Square at Thames Street, as well as on Equality Park Place and Equality Park West, the westside of Dr. Marcus F. Wheatland Blvd., Lower Thames Street from America’s Cup Avenue to Morton Avenue, Carroll Avenue from Morton Avenue to Harrison Avenue, Narragansett Avenue between Spring Street and Bellevue Avenue, and both sides of America’s Cup Avenue at the Gateway center.
Officers from the Newport Police Department will be present along the parade routes to assist with traffic control and safety. The Police Department reminds the public to be committed to following Newport City Ordinances during the event.

The St. Patrick’s Day parade will be this Saturday, 3/16/24. The parade kicks off at 11:00 a.m. from Newport City Hall, 43 Broadway. Staging will begin at 9:00 a.m. The route will go down Broadway and into Washington Square. The parade will continue south onto Thames Street and then onto America’s Cup Avenue. The route will traverse back onto Thames Street and end on Carroll Avenue at St. Augustin’s Church.
Parking is prohibited from 5:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the following streets: Broadway from Cranston Avenue to Washington Square at Thames Street; Equality Park Place and Equality Park West; the westside of Dr. Marcus F. Expect heavy traffic in the city and parking is limited. Public parking is available at the Gateway Center on America’s Cup Avenue and the Waterfront Lot on Mary Street.
The Newport Police will have uniformed and plainclothes officers along the parade routes and will be strictly enforcing Newport City Ordinances (open containers of alcohol in public, underage drinking, disorderly conduct and noise violations). The Police Department will have a strong presence to make this a fun, safe and family friendly event.
