The Newport International Boat Show concluded its 55th year on Sept. 20 after four days on the downtown waterfront, with organizers describing attendance as strong but not releasing a figure.
The show, presented by BankNewport, spread more than 400 sailboats, powerboats and brokerage boats across more than 17 acres of docks and land displays, along with marine gear and services.
“This was a boater’s crowd, with people taking time to compare boats and discuss their next purchase or upgrade,” Lisa Knowles, the show director, said in a statement. “Our exhibitors reported positive leads and feedback, and attendees also made time to learn new skills.”
New this year was a Fishing Village presented by Tashmoo Boatworks, with fishing brands, demonstrations, seminars and a 50-foot casting pond. The Windward VIP Lounge moved to Midtown Race Club on Perry Mill Wharf.
Educational programming included seminars from the Annapolis School of Seamanship, hands-on Tech Talks from IYRS School of Technology & Trades, on-water captain-led training through Freedom Boat Club and a docking workshop. Every seminar and class ran at capacity, according to organizers.
“The boat show serves as a cherry on top to a great summer and it’s an event that I always look forward to every year,” Mayor Charlie Holder said at the opening-day ribbon-cutting.
The 20th Newport for New Products Awards recognized more than 40 U.S. debuts and one world debut. The Lyman-Morse Boatbuilding Hood 42 won best new boat overall.
The show’s community programming included a Sunday Community Day with the Boys & Girls Club of Newport County and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, and work with IYRS, the Rhode Island Marine Trade Association, Sail Newport and Save The Bay. More than 250 marine trade students attended, according to organizers. Ticket buyers could donate to Save The Bay at checkout, raising more than $2,500.
The 2027 show is scheduled for Sept. 16-19.
