Rep. Gabe Amo began a second Blue Economy tour of Rhode Island on Wednesday at REGENT Craft, which cut the ribbon on a new factory where it builds its electric seagliders.
Amo, the ranking member of the House Science Committee’s environment subcommittee, said he plans to visit workers, small businesses, researchers, educators and nonprofits across the First Congressional District over the coming weeks.
“Our Blue Economy is about more than what happens on the water,” Amo said. “It’s about good jobs, new technology, and lowering costs by building more of what we need right here in Rhode Island.”
His office says the sector employs 36,000 people in Rhode Island and contributes more than $5 billion to the state’s gross domestic product annually. Nationally it accounts for 2.4 million jobs and $397 billion.
Amo ran a similar tour in 2024 that included stops at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Newport, VATN Systems in Portsmouth, Flux Marine in Bristol and the Community College of Rhode Island’s wind safety training program.
