The state Department of Environmental Management will stock brook and rainbow trout in 25 waterways between Friday, Oct. 2, and Thursday, Oct. 8, including three in Newport County.
Locally, the list includes Stafford Pond and Eight Rod Farm Pond in Tiverton and Upper Melville, also known as Thurston Gray Pond, in Portsmouth.
Elsewhere in the state, stocking covers Alton Pond, Carolina Trout Pond, Cronan Landing, Meadow Brook Pond and Woodville in Richmond; Barber Pond in South Kingstown; the Blackstone River and Olney Pond at Lincoln Woods in Lincoln; Browning Mill Pond and the Route 165 check station stretch in Exeter; Carbuncle Pond in Coventry; the Grantville-to-Route 95 stretch and Hope Valley Fishing Area in Hopkinton; Kings Factory Bridge and Lower Shannock in Charlestown; Round Top Ponds in Burrillville; Shippee Sawmill Pond in Foster; Silver Spring Lake in North Kingstown; Spring Grove Pond in Glocester; Upper Pawtuxet in Scituate; and Willett Pond in East Providence.
Anglers 15 and older need a 2026 fishing license, and a Trout Conservation Stamp is required to keep trout. The stamp isn’t required for anyone 15 or younger, Rhode Island residents 65 or older, people with a 100 percent disability, or landowners fishing on property where they live.
