PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — Ethan Jones scored both touchdowns, including a 70-yard interception return, as South Kingstown beat Portsmouth 14-0 on Saturday night at Portsmouth High School.

Neither team scored in the first half, with both defenses holding. Jones broke the deadlock on a short run with five seconds left in the third quarter, then put the game away with 5:30 remaining in the fourth, picking off a pass and returning it 70 yards.

Portsmouth rotated quarterbacks through the night, with Michael Faria taking most of the snaps and Silas MacMillen coming in late for a final push. Faria connected with Liam Casey on a 20-yard completion three minutes into the fourth quarter.

Jacob Labonte intercepted a pass for a roughly 25-yard return for Portsmouth, and the defense recovered a fumble and forced several turnovers on downs, holding South Kingstown to two scores.

Both teams entered the night 1-1.
