Rogers High School hosts a public conversation on school culture tonight at 5 p.m. in the Student Commons, led by a national speaker who has spent the day with students and staff.
B. Elliot Hopkins is director of sports and student services for the National Federation of State High School Associations, where he leads national student-leadership programming. He has given more than 300 hazing-prevention presentations across the United States and Canada, works with schools and families after hazing incidents, and co-authored 2024 research on hazing precursors, peer violence and bullying in secondary schools.
The session, billed as “One Rise, All Rise! A Discussion About Culture and Climate,” covers bullying, hazing, antisemitism and racism, with an emphasis on prevention, accountability and what students and adults each owe a school community.
“Minimizing risk for children so they can still enjoy their sports and activities is one of the biggest rewards in my job,” Hopkins said in materials provided by the district.
Superintendent Peter Sanchioni invited parents and community members to attend in his weekly message, which opened by reinforcing that student safety is the district’s highest priority and pointing families to an online student safety reporting form.
“A big part of making our schools a safe and welcoming environment for all is ensuring we have the right culture,” Sanchioni wrote. “One where we respect each other, respect differences, and embrace our diversity of cultures and languages.”
