St. Mary’s Church will mark the 73rd anniversary of the wedding of Jacqueline Bouvier and then-Sen. John F. Kennedy with “Return to Camelot: The Kennedy Wedding Remembered” at noon on Saturday, Sept. 12, the anniversary itself.
The program includes vintage film from the 1953 ceremony, a live performance of the organ music and hymns played that day, and the song the couple danced to first at their reception at Hammersmith Farm, Bouvier’s childhood summer home.
Afterward visitors can tour the church, see pew No. 10 where the couple sat when attending Mass in Newport, and view the kneelers they used at their nuptial Mass, which are still used for weddings there.
Because the anniversary falls on a Saturday this year, the church is holding one presentation rather than its usual two.
No reservations are needed. A free-will offering benefits St. Mary’s Hot Lunch Program. The church is at the corner of Spring Street and Memorial Boulevard West, with free parking in the church lots off William Street.
