Michael Franklin Lauzon died peacefully at the RI Veterans Home on September 17, 2026 following a courageous battle with years of illness.
Born in Newport, he was the son of Peter and Julia Murray Lauzon. He was predeceased by his brothers, Peter, John, and Julian. He is survived by his daughter, Nicole Lauzon of Saunderstown; his sisters, Mary Lauzon of Charlestown and Kathleen Lauzon Johnston of Summerfield, Florida; and eight nieces and nephews.
Mike graduated from Rogers High School, where he learned carpentry and developed a deep appreciation for restoring wood to its natural patina. He earned certification as an automotive mechanic through the RI Trades Shops School. His work with a painters’ union took him to some of the highest bridges in New England. He proudly shared that he had enjoyed the best view of Newport from the peak of the Pell Bridge.
Mike was a proud Air Force veteran. He returned from his deployment in Vietnam carrying emotional and physical trauma that remained with him throughout his life. Yet he lived his days with gratitude and joy, “for the ones that didn’t make it home.”
Committal service with Military Funeral Honors will be held at the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 301 S. County Trail, Exeter, RI on Thursday, October 8th at 11:00 AM.
