The Norman Bird Sanctuary is accepting entries for the home and garden competition at its 52nd Harvest Fair, held Oct. 3 and 4.
The competition is open to anyone — gardeners, cooks, families, businesses, school groups — and entrants can compete in as many categories as they want, so long as they grew or made the entry themselves.
There are four divisions. Flowers and Trees is heavy on dahlias, with prizes for largest, most colorful, most unusual, pompon and single blooms, plus arrangements, roses, pollinator arrangements, mixed floral design and a fresh-cut tree clipping.
From the Kitchen covers muffins, scones, cookies, breads and pies — judged for both taste and appearance — along with honey, jams, pesto, pickled produce and salsa.
Home-Grown Edible takes fruit and vegetables, including largest pumpkin, gourds, collections, a cornucopia, the most unusual produce, and an animal sculpture made from the harvest.
Outdoor Decor has three categories: scarecrow, jack-o’-lantern and birdhouse.
Entries must be dropped off Saturday, Oct. 3, between 8 and 10 a.m., and stay on display all weekend. Winners are announced at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
