The city will receive more than $68,000 in federal grant money for CPR devices, part of nearly $2.7 million awarded to Rhode Island fire departments and first responder agencies this week, FEMA announced Friday.
The money comes through the Assistance to Firefighters Grants program, which funds protective equipment, emergency vehicles and responder health and wellness programs.
Also in Newport County, the Prudence Island Volunteer Fire Department will receive more than $255,000 for portable radios.
Elsewhere in the state, the largest awards went to Woonsocket, which received $1 million for a ladder truck, and the Central Coventry Fire District, which got more than $499,000 for an ambulance. The Department of Business Regulation received more than $370,000 for training equipment, West Warwick nearly $340,000 for hose and appliances, Lincoln nearly $100,000 for cardiac monitors, and the Quinnville Fire District more than $57,000 for portable radios and thermal imaging cameras.
FEMA said it will continue awarding fiscal 2025 fire grant funds over the coming week. Rhode Island’s share is part of roughly $32.5 million going to the six New England states.
