The Sailing Museum & National Sailing Hall of Fame (NSHOF)

Nominations for the National Sailing Hall of Fame’s Class of 2027 open Thursday, Oct. 1, and stay open through Dec. 31.

The Hall of Fame, part of the Sailing Museum on Thames Street, takes nominations from anyone — sailors, yacht clubs, community sailing centers, class associations, maritime organizations and historians. Neither the board nor the selection committee puts forward candidates of its own; the committee evaluates only what comes in through the public process.

The organization says it’s looking beyond race results for people who taught generations to sail, changed how boats are designed or built, broke barriers, advanced safety or strengthened an organization. Since the first class was inducted in 2011, inductees have come from competition, innovation, design, education, coaching, leadership and service.

Nominations are submitted at thesailingmuseum.org starting Oct. 1.
