State Sen. Dawn Euer is hosting a free expungement clinic and resource fair Wednesday evening at the Community College of Rhode Island’s Newport Campus, offering people with criminal records the chance to consult with a public defender and connect with community resources.
The event runs Wednesday, August 5 from 5 to 8 p.m. at CCRI Newport, 1 John H. Chafee Blvd. Attendees can learn about their legal rights, explore expungement options with a public defender, and meet representatives from a range of partner organizations.
“Support for Rhode Islanders with criminal convictions in their past, including legal expungement, not only helps these individuals to rebuild full and productive lives, but also reduces recidivism while contributing to safer, healthier and more productive communities across our state,” said Euer (D-Dist. 13, Newport, Jamestown).
Partner organizations at the event include the Aquidneck Island Adult Learning Center, CCRI, the Formerly Incarcerated Union of Rhode Island, Newport Mental Health, Sisters United for Freedom, Turning Around Ministries, and the Women’s Resource Center.
