Team Italy returns to Newport Polo this Saturday, July 11, for its 14th appearance in the Newport International Polo Series, bringing with it a weekend of Italian-themed events and one of the summer season’s most anticipated international matchups.
The visit follows last year’s USA vs. Italy match, which drew the largest crowd in the series’ 35-year history. In anticipation of another strong turnout, Newport Polo has added a rapid-entry traffic system, expanded parking, additional seating, upgraded amenities, and increased staffing. Capacity limits are in place for select marquee matches, and advance tickets are strongly encouraged, as gate sales may not be available once limits are reached.
Saturday’s match will be accompanied by a Limoncello Lawn Party, with gourmet food trucks, artisan vendors, premium beverage tastings, and historical exhibits on the grounds. An Italian-themed waterfront reception overlooking Newport Harbor is also part of the weekend.
“The Italian team’s debut in 2012 was met with extraordinary enthusiasm, particularly in a state with one of the largest Italian-American populations in the country,” said Dan Keating, Newport Polo’s founder and president.
Newport Polo traces its roots to America’s First Polo Club, founded in Newport in 1876. The International Polo Series runs Saturdays from June through September. Tickets and the full schedule are at newportpolo.com.
