Newport’s Firehouse Theater is adding standup comedy to its July lineup, welcoming two comics to the stage this month before its regular weekend shows from The Bit Players.

On Sunday, July 12, Boston-based comedian Andrew Mayer brings his new one-man show, Have Fun, Be Yourself, to the Firehouse ahead of a run at the prestigious Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Mayer has been touring the United States and internationally since 2004, has appeared at the Bridgetown and Seattle comedy festivals, and is a former winner of the Boston Comedy Festival.

On Thursday, July 23, Conor Janda stops in Newport as part of a national tour. The Philadelphia native was recently named a New Face of Comedy at the Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal and has worked as a writer and actor on The Gag, Comedy Central’s queer digital channel. He most recently released a special with Don’t Tell Comedy.

The Bit Players, Rhode Island’s most award-winning comedy group, perform every Friday and Saturday at the Firehouse. All events are BYOB. Tickets for both shows are available at firehousetheater.org.
