Easton's Beach

The Rhode Island Department of Health is recommending that the swimming area at Easton’s Beach reopen after bacteria counts returned to safe levels, the agency said Monday.

The recommendation reverses a closure issued late last week, when elevated bacteria levels prompted the state to advise against swimming at the popular Newport beach.

RIDOH said it will continue to monitor and review beach water quality through Labor Day, and cautioned that a beach’s status can change as new data become available.

The most up-to-date beach information is available through a recorded message on the department’s beaches telephone line, 401-222-2751. A list of closed beaches is also posted at https://health.ri.gov/beaches/.
