Salve Regina University is offering a new post-graduate certificate in clinical leadership in behavior analysis, a program it describes as the first of its kind to focus on the skills needed to lead behavior-analytic service organizations.
Designed for working professionals, the program can be completed in one to two years and is enrolling now for the fall 2026 semester. The online format blends synchronous and asynchronous learning to provide flexibility for working professionals.
According to the Behavior Analysis Certification Board, nationwide demand for board certified behavior analysts has increased every year since 2010. Cody Morris, a Salve associate professor and the program’s director, said the certificate is meant to fill a gap in standard training.
“There are many opportunities out there for BCBAs to quickly take on leadership roles in their organizations, but building skills in management, compliance, planning and other leadership skills is not part of standard training,” Morris said. “This program was designed to help BCBAs develop those skills that are so critical in leadership roles.”
Coursework focuses on leadership and management, compliance and ethical oversight, strategic planning, systems and operations, quality practices, training, clinical supervision, and innovation and dissemination, with instructors who are leaders in their respective fields.
Joseph H. Cihon, director of research for the Autism Partnership Foundation, said clinical expertise alone does not always prepare professionals to lead. “Many behavior analysts are asked to take on leadership responsibilities because they are strong clinicians, but clinical expertise alone does not always prepare someone to lead teams, systems, or organizations,” he said. “This program recognizes that leadership requires its own set of skills and gives professionals a chance to develop them intentionally.”
A Catholic, coeducational institution founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1947, Salve Regina enrolls more than 2,700 students in over 60 academic programs. More information about the certificate is available at salve.edu/clinical-leadership.
