Bertha May Donovan, 79, of Newport, R.I., passed away on June 23rd, 2026, at South County Hospital, South Kingstown, R.I.
Bertha was born February 22, 1947, in Newport, R.I. She was a daughter of the late William Donovan and Dorothy (Yeomans) Donovan. A granddaughter of the late Henry and Dorothy (Munro) Yeomans and grandmother of the late Devan C. Skipper.
She graduated from Rogers High School and attended classes at URI. Bertha worked for Verizon for 37 years. She was an avid book reader and enjoyed arts and crafts.
Bertha served on the Board of Directors of Child & Family Services of Newport County, volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club of Newport County and at Sullivan School.
Bertha is survived by her sons, Wayne C. Skipper Jr. (Patricia) and Sean D. Skipper. Her grandchildren: Thomas Skipper (Meagan), Sean D. Skipper Jr., Rija Skipper, Nadia Anderson, Elizabeth Wood (Peter), Sarah Hynes Kaltz (Jeff), and 9 great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, June 30 from 12:00-2:00pm at the O’Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring St, Newport. Burial will be private.
