A political rally organized by the Newport Dems Direct Action Committee is scheduled for Saturday, March 28, at Pottsy Field near Two Mile Corner, 600 West Main Rd., with activities running from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

The event is part of the national “No Kings” movement, a series of demonstrations that organizers describe as a nonviolent resistance to what they characterize as authoritarian overreach by the current federal administration. The movement, which began in 2025, has since expanded to communities across the country.

Participants are asked to line the sidewalks along West Main Road near Pottsy Field. Organizers say the event is free and open to the public.

At noon, buses will depart from Pottsy Field to transport attendees to a statewide “No Kings” rally in Providence. Round-trip bus seats are available by reservation at secure.actblue.com.

The Aquidneck Island rally is one of several being held across Rhode Island and the nation on the same date. The Middletown event is also being coordinated in partnership with Indivisible, a national progressive advocacy organization, and is co-listed on Mobilize, an event platform used by political and civic groups.

Organizers emphasized a strict commitment to nonviolence. Event guidelines state that participants are expected to de-escalate potential confrontations with counterprotesters and to act lawfully. Weapons of any kind — including legally permitted firearms — are prohibited at the event.

The venue at Pottsy Field offers accessible terrain, with flat ground and no stairs or steps.
