St. George’s School has completed a $26 million renovation of its historic Arden-Diman-Eccles Dormitory, transforming the building into a community hub designed to bring boarding and day students together.
The project, designed by Philadelphia-based Voith & Mactavish Architects, adds a central addition beneath the dormitory’s iconic clock tower that serves as community space, a day student drop-off point and a connection between the building’s two residential wings. The expanded core features three common areas with sweeping views of the seaside campus.
A co-ed day student lounge on the lower level, connected to a shared dormitory lounge by an open staircase, is designed to bring non-boarding students more fully into residential life — an approach the architects say addresses a growing challenge in independent schools as day student populations increase.
The 55,000-square-foot dormitory complex, which formerly housed 96 boys, was reconfigured to serve 73 co-ed students with separate wings for each gender. New faculty apartments were also added.
The renovation, completed in 2025 through a two-phase construction process, is the first phase of a larger master plan developed by Voith & Mactavish for revitalizing St. George’s historic facilities. The total project cost, including site work, was $30.5 million.
St. George’s School is a private boarding and day school on a seaside campus in Middletown.
