With a winter storm forecast to bring heavy snow to Rhode Island this weekend, the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority is asking bus riders to sign up for service alerts and prepare for possible delays, detours, or cancellations.

RIPTA said service updates will be posted at ripta.com/alerts and on the agency’s social media accounts (@RideRIPTA on Facebook, @RIPTA_RI on X). Riders can also track service through the Transit app.

The agency warned that service could be suspended if travel becomes unsafe.

“Safety is RIPTA’s top priority,” the agency said in a statement Wednesday.

How to sign up for alerts

RIPTA offers route-specific email alerts so riders only receive updates for the buses they use. To subscribe, visit ripta.com/schedules, select your route, click “Receive Updates for This Schedule,” and enter your email address.

Warming centers

RIPTA is also reminding residents that it maintains a list of warming centers across Rhode Island and the bus routes that serve them at ripta.com/warm. The agency encourages people to call ahead before visiting, as hours and availability may change.
