Angel Brito scored a team-high 11 points, including several clutch baskets in the second half, as Rogers held off a late Prout rally to win 43-41 in the Vikings’ home opener Thursday night.

The game marked the first boys basketball contest played in Rogers High School’s new gymnasium, and the Vikings gave their home crowd plenty to cheer about in the down-to-the-wire finish.

Victor Ruggieri added 10 points for Rogers, which built a lead in the first half before Prout made things interesting down the stretch.

The Crusaders mounted a furious fourth-quarter comeback but fell just short as Rogers secured the two-point victory.

Avery Martin led Prout in scoring as the Crusaders battled back from a halftime deficit. Despite the late surge, Prout couldn’t complete the comeback on the road.

Rogers, coached by Mike Newsome, improved its record with the hard-fought win in the new facility.
