The City of Newport is kicking off its comprehensive plan update with a community visioning session tonight, Tuesday, Dec. 2, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Rogers High School in the Student Commons Atrium.
The event, part of the Newport 2037 Comprehensive Plan Update, invites residents to share their ideas on what they want the city to look like over the next decade. The comprehensive plan guides growth, development and preservation, including decisions on land use, policy changes and spending priorities for public projects.
The evening will feature family-friendly activities including a winter wonderland photobooth, free food and drinks, a cookie decorating station and a holiday raffle.
The 18-month planning process will address city services and facilities, climate change and natural hazards, economic development, housing, historical and cultural resources, land use, natural resources and energy, outdoor recreation and open space, transportation and water.
Residents can also participate online by visiting the collaborative map at CityofNewport.com/Newport2037 to share site-specific ideas and insights.
