The Museum of Newport Irish History will present a lecture on the artistic legacy of Helen Hooker O’Malley on Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 6 p.m. at the Wyndham Newport Hotel.
Cormac K.H. O’Malley, a retired international corporate lawyer, will speak about his mother’s work in “The Artistic Legacy of Helen Hooker O’Malley (1905-1993): Capturing Ireland in Camera, Sculpture, Painting, and Cloth.” The lecture marks the third talk of the museum’s 24th Annual Lecture Series.
O’Malley has dedicated many years to preserving the literary and historical legacy of his father, Irish patriot and author Ernie O’Malley, as well as the artistic and cultural legacy of his mother.

The lecture is made possible by a gift from Francis J. Furtado, given in memory of his wife, Barbara Carr Furtado.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with complimentary light hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar available. Admission is $5 at the door, payable by cash or check. The lecture will also be live-streamed via Zoom at no cost.
Reservations are required for both in-person and virtual attendance. For the talk overview, speaker biography and reservation links, visit the “Lectures” page at newportirishhistory.org. The website also includes recordings of past lectures, including O’Malley’s April 2019 talk on his father, “Ernie O’Malley (1897-1957): Irish Patriot and Author: A Life Fighting the Pale.”
