Newport resident Sarah Dully was named Rhode Island’s 2026 Teacher of the Year during an all-school assembly at Narragansett High School on Sept. 16.

Dully, an English Language Arts teacher at Narragansett High School, has been an educator since 2012 and joined the high school in 2020. She will represent Rhode Island at various Teacher of the Year events nationally through 2027.

Rhode Island Education Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green announced the honor at the assembly, which was attended by Narragansett School Superintendent Dr. Peter Cummings, Principal Conor McCloskey, members of the General Assembly, and students, colleagues, friends and family.

“Congratulations to Sarah and the entire Narragansett school community on this honor,” Gov. Dan McKee said. “By all accounts, Sarah is joyous about teaching, and she brings her passion into the classroom every day.”

Dully serves as National Honor Society advisor and was the Class of 2025 advisor. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from College of the Holy Cross and a Master of Education from Fitchburg State University.

“I am honored to be selected as 2026 Rhode Island Teacher of the Year,” Dully said. “It’s humbling to represent so many thoughtful, enthusiastic, and committed educators here in the Ocean State.”

As Teacher of the Year, Dully will work with the Rhode Island Department of Education throughout the 2025-2026 school year to support education statewide, including strengthening professional development. She is eligible to represent Rhode Island as National Teacher of the Year.

Dully was also surprised with free coffee for a year from Dunkin’, presented by local franchisee Rob Batista.
