Newport Volleyball Club will host the Cardines Classic grass volleyball tournament at Cardines Field on Sunday, Oct. 12, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The special event, approved by Newport City Council, will bring together players and fans for a day of competition at the historic venue. Spectators can watch matches and cheer on athletes from across the region free of charge.
“We want to encourage Newporters to stop by, spectate, and learn about the sport of volleyball as well as our club, which has been providing opportunities of play to all levels year-round on the island for over 40 years,” said Ferass Sammoura, a member of the club’s board of directors.
The tournament will feature multiple divisions for players of varying skill levels. Registration is required in advance and costs $20 per player in B division or $40 per player in other divisions. Registration is available at volleyballlife.com/event/32591.
Local small business vendors are also expected to participate in the event.
