The Jamestown Arts Center will celebrate the season with its annual Autumn Arts Open House on Sunday, Oct. 19, from 1 to 4 p.m.
The free, all-ages event invites community members to explore JAC studios, meet teaching artists and participate in hands-on art activities. Visitors can enjoy live demonstrations, make-and-take projects and seasonal refreshments.
“This annual tradition is a wonderful opportunity to invite community members to experience the creative energy of JAC,” said Lyric Johnson, JAC’s education director. “It’s a chance to try something new, meet our incredible instructors, and get a taste of what our educational programming has to offer.”
Throughout the afternoon, drop-in activities will be led by artist instructors Brooke Erin Goldstein, Kara McKamey, Diane Bonn Damle and Casey Weibust, along with artists from JAC’s sister studio Out of the Box Studio and Gallery. Visitors can try clay modeling, color wheels, macrame, drawing and lantern-making ahead of Halloween and Jamestown’s Fright Night.
Christine Cocca, JAC executive director, said the open house is a chance for people to roll up their sleeves and explore creative projects in the center’s studios and galleries.
“Our talented teachers and dedicated staff look forward to this day all year — it’s a chance to welcome new families and share the unique, inspiring energy that makes JAC so special,” Cocca said.
All activities are free and open to the public. Visitors are welcome to stop by for a short visit or spend the afternoon exploring and creating.
In addition to seasonal events, JAC offers eight-week art education classes for adults, teens and children, with scholarships available for all ages. More information is available at jamestownartcenter.org.
The Autumn Arts Open House is supported by grants from the Jamestown Education Foundation and the Rhode Island Foundation’s Newport County Fund. Hard Pressed Cider Company will provide cider and doughnuts.
