The Tiverton High School girls field hockey team battled throughout Monday night’s road contest at Al Morro Athletic Complex, but couldn’t break through offensively against a strong Classical defense, falling 2-0 to the Purple.

In what became a defensive struggle under the lights, goalkeeper Nick Brennan was stellar between the pipes for the Tigers (now facing their first loss), recording 14 saves against a persistent Classical attack that dominated possession for much of the night.

Classical’s Emma Gertrudes and Violet Sutton each found the back of the net, with Olivia Martins adding an assist while posting three shots on goal. The Purple’s offensive pressure was evident in the corner battle, as they earned 11 offensive corners compared to Tiverton’s single opportunity.

The Tigers’ defense bent but rarely broke for three-plus quarters, keeping the game scoreless deep into the contest. However, Classical capitalized late in the fourth quarter to take a 2-0 lead and seal the victory.

Despite the loss, Tiverton’s defensive unit showed resilience throughout, with the team’s backline and Brennan combining to frustrate Classical’s attackers for most of the evening. The Tigers will look to regroup and return to their winning ways in their next outing.
