Barry Murphy, Lt. Col. USMC (Ret.), age 87, passed away on July 28, 2025, in Middletown, Rhode Island.
Born on July 15, 1938, in Winchester, MA, Barry graduated from Boston College and joined the Marine Corps in 1960. After a Marine Corps career spanning 22 years, Barry moved with his family to Middletown, RI where he worked at McLaughlin Research Corporation until his retirement.
Husband of Beverley; loving father to Kristi Murphy, Kerry Flaker, Jeffrey Flaker (son-in-law): and dear grandfather to Olivia and Luke Flaker. Barry is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A passionate lover of the outdoors and avid birdwatcher, Barry found peace and joy in volunteering at Sachuest Point and the Norman Bird Sanctuary, where he served as Board Chair for many years.
Barry will be remembered not only for his service and dedication, but for his deep love of nature, kindness and generosity, and the quiet dignity with which he lived his life. Barry will be profoundly missed by all who knew him. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
