Newport Classical will present three free concerts designed for families and children from August through October as part of its Community Concerts Series presented by BankNewport.

The Grammy Award-winning Akropolis Reed Quintet will perform Saturday, Aug. 23, at 4 p.m. at the Newport County YMCA, 792 Valley Road, Middletown. The interactive concert will feature selections from the group’s six albums, including “Death Metal Chicken” and “Circusmuziek,” along with musical storytelling games. An instrument petting zoo and food from Wally’s Wiener Wagon will be available before the show.

The Navy Band Northeast’s Crosswinds Woodwind Quintet takes the stage Sunday, Sept. 7, at 2:30 p.m. at Miantonomi Memorial Park, 120 Hillside Ave., Newport. The five active-duty Navy musicians will perform classical works, patriotic favorites and familiar tunes on flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and horn.

Classical guitarist Aaron Larget-Caplan will present his New Lullaby Project on Sunday, Oct. 12, at 2:30 p.m. at Emmanuel Church, 42 Dearborn St., Newport. The concert features original compositions commissioned from around the world and invites families to wear pajamas and bring stuffed animals and blankets.

All concerts are free and open to the public. Advanced registration is requested but not required.

The concerts receive additional support from the Rhode Island Foundation Newport County Fund and a Walmart Foundation Spark Good Local Grant. The August concert is sponsored by Randy and Becky Johnson in honor of their granddaughter Schuyler Madison.
