The International Tennis Hall of Fame launched its sixth season of the “Road to Newport” documentary series this week, featuring intimate profiles of the three tennis legends set to be inducted this August in Newport.
Maria Sharapova and doubles champions Bob and Mike Bryan will share their journeys from childhood to tennis stardom in the weekly episodes, which began streaming Tuesday at tennisfame.com/roadtonewport, the Hall of Fame’s YouTube channel, and across social media platforms.
The series offers fans an unprecedented look into the personal stories behind these tennis icons. Sharapova opens up about her upbringing, her passion for tennis fashion including her iconic Nike collaborations, her business ventures, and the major championships that defined her career from her breakthrough 2004 Wimbledon title to her 2012 French Open victory.
The Bryan Brothers, ATP history’s most successful doubles team, discuss their Olympic experiences, the origin story of their signature chest bump celebration, their musical pursuits, and the partnership that made them tennis legends.
“I’m excited to continue my collaboration with the International Tennis Hall of Fame with Road to Newport and to help tell the stories of these three tennis legends,” said director Katie Walsh. “It was an honor to sit down with Maria, Bob and Mike and be inspired by their accomplishments both on the court and off.”
Walsh brings impressive credentials to the project, having won Peabody and Emmy awards for her directing and producing work. Her recent Netflix documentary “Simone Biles Rising” earned two Critics Choice Awards for Best Sports Documentary and Best Limited Series Documentary. Her previous work has been featured on ESPN, NBC Sports, and ABC.
The documentary series builds anticipation for Hall of Fame Weekend, which will culminate in a three-day Induction Celebration from August 21-23 in Newport. The weekend events will formally honor Sharapova and the Bryan Brothers with what the Hall of Fame calls “the Ultimate Honor in Tennis.”
New episodes will continue releasing weekly until the August induction ceremony. Fans can access the series online and learn more about Induction Celebration programming and ticket sales at tennisfame.com/induction.
